Does My Blog Look Good in This (DMBLGiT) Dec 2015

DMBLGIT

It's been almost 4 years that I hosted this monthly food photography event, called by some as "the grandest foodporn event available" on the web. It was DMBLGiT Feb 2012 edition, at that time, Andrew of Spittoon Extra, still in charge of DMBGLiT. After long hiatus, Neel of Learn Food Photography re-launching this event.

As foodie that owe so much to this event, I am so happy that DMBLGiT is back. I met and befriended with some amazing foodie bloggers around the world from DMBLGiT. As a self-taught food photographer, DMBLGiT gallery was my literature. I studied how a beautiful photo was taken by observing participants photos, especially the winners. Thought I am no longer join as participant (my last badge was in Sept 2009), but I am always exciting to know who the winners of each month edition and learn from them.

Before I tell you more about DMLBGiT Dec 2015, let me congratulate previous winners. Congratulations to the winners of DMBLGiT November 2015 Edition hosted by Tika Nilmada of Cooking Chapter.

Now let me introduce you the panel of judges who willing to spend their precious times and share their expertise in reviewing participants food photos and score them in three categories, edibility, aesthetics, and originality.

Matt Inwood is a designer and art director who has worked with some of the most talented people in food and publishing areas over the last fifteen years. I knew Matt by accident while browsing in Instagram. Seeing his Instagram gallery is one of my recreation, his photos (not only food) never fails to spoil my eyes. It is one of the most beautiful food photos gallery in Instagram and they are all taken by iphone! Just check his IG and follow him.

Mehmet AteĊŸ is a food photographer and food photography instructor from Turkey. He has been working as photographer since 1997 before graduating from university in 2000. I knew him from Instagram too and amazed by his food photos. Follow his IG's gallery and get inspired.

Ira Rodrigues, the only lady in the panel of judges, is a renowned food blogger and food photographer in Indonesia. She is one of my fav food photographer from Indonesia. I knew her when we worked together back in 2008 as administrator of an online food photography group. She has good eyes and taste both as food photographer and food stylist. Her Instagram gallery is also one of my fav. Go check it yourself and do not forget to follow her.

Judging Criteria:
Photographs are reviewed by a panel of judges, who score them in three categories: edibility, aesthetics, and originality. The host then compiles the scores to determine the winners. The specific things the judges will be looking for are as follows:

– Aesthetics: composition, food styling, lighting, focus, etc.
– Edibility: “does the photo make us want to dive in and eat the food?”
– Originality: the photograph that catches our attention and makes us want to say “wow!”, displaying something we might not have seen before.
– Overall Winner: top overall scores in all three categories combined.

There are three overall winners for photographs with the highest point totals in all three categories combined, and one winner in each of the three individual categories.
